REFORM OUR ROADS
As Leaders in Humphreys County we must all focus on our county's aging infrastructure, including roads and bridges. Although, as County Executive, I will not have jurisdiction over our Highway Department, I can promise to put maximum pressure on elected officials to bring our roads into the 21st Century. A century that has already been here for 22 years. Maximum pressure will be up to and including seeking action in the way we oversee our Highway Department officials. I will advocate for oversight of the highway department, to bring transparency and peace of mind to our citizens. For far too long the citizens of Humphreys County have allocated more to our road system than neighboring counties, and we have nothing to show for it. The flood waters of last August exposed the poor state of our infrastructure and now is a “once in a generation” opportunity to use local, state and federal funds to rebuild all 600+ miles of our county roads. Maximum pressure does not mean that we fight and battle with our partners at the Highway Department, it means that we encourage and shine light on issues facing our communities. I see this as public safety negligence. How many people in our communities are detouring 15, 20 or 30 minutes to get to the nearest hospital or grocery store?
